Remodelista Reconnaissance: Back-of-the-Seat Book Boxes at Cremer in London

In the running for our informal award for Coziest Cafe of All Time? Cremer in London. We particularly love the wooden boxes latched to the backs of the rush-seat chairs, each one stocked with reading material. But what’s their story? Read on:
The Sighting
Above: The layered, antique-filled interiors at Cremer have a make-yourself-at-home vibe. Spotted against a far wall: book boxes affixed to the backs of the chairs. Photograph by Callum Su from Cremer in Hoxton: London’s Talk-of-the-Town New Café, Library Included.
The Source
Above: We emailed Oscar Piccolo, the designer behind Cremer, to find out more. Behold: The book boxes are custom creations by London-based artist/designer Louie Isaaman-Jones. Writes Louie: “They’re inspired by school and church book holders. Oscar pitched me the idea, and I already sell a bookstand as one of my main products so it felt like a good match.” Photograph by Callum Su.
