Psst… What We Loved in August
Each month, our editors and contributors share a look at what we’ve been reading, watching, coveting, pinning, visiting, and otherwise loving lately. Here’s what we’ve been up to:
Above: “Currently serving: end of summer, outdoors and in.” – Margot (alias @dogwalkdiarynyc)
Above: “A few months ago I said goodbye to my favorite place in the world: my family’s house in Maine. This house number hung on the lamppost and welcomed me each time I climbed the front steps: coming home from college, home for the night, home just for dinner. Last month I got it tattooed so I can carry it with me wherever I go.” – Annie
Above L: “What’s beside my bed: homegrown gardenias for all-night heavenly scent.” – Kier. Above R: Among Clare’s highlights from a trip to Paris: “The Zara home store on Rue du Bac. It’s been open 18 months and WOW I wish it would come to London. Incredible. Also Enni Udon: great little noodle/Japanese restaurant in the 8th arrondissement. Chic interior, sweet service, and delicious food.”
Above: “It’s been so exciting to witness, from afar, the opening of Shooster Arts + Literature in Sag Harbor, New York this past summer. It’s a project from one of my nearest and dearest friends, Lauren Shooster: a living gallery of fine art, antiques, and rare books that Lauren has collected over the years. She has a gallery location (197 Madison Street in Sag Harbor) and also operates out of her own house, a 19th century whaler’s cottage nearby.” – Alexa
Above: “I snapped this at Café des Chutes in Bend, OR, not for the pretty vignette—though I’m always, always a sucker for green bistro sets—but for the crazy combo of pear tree and grape vine. Look at the canopy and you’ll see both fruits.” – Fan
Above: “Last month I stayed in one of the lighthouse keepers’ cottages in Dungeness, Kent, for my birthday. It was blazing hot every day, and the ideal headgear was a Stetson I’d picked up in Austin, Texas, while researching Gardenista: The Low-Impact Garden (out October 14!). Not only was the hat in great demand but so was an early copy of the book that I’d taken along. Caught here is my twin sister making use of both before anyone else had emerged in the morning.” – Kendra
Above: “The re-patched bathmat that will live forever; first posted 10 years ago (or so).” – Julie
