5 Favorites: Clever Kitchen Tools from Eatco of Japan

Eatco’s kitchen tools don’t claim to perform miracles. What they do is finesse everyday tasks, from slicing avocados to spreading butter on toast.
We discovered the Japanese collection at the New York design show Shoppe Object and admired its economy of line and material—each piece is made of stainless steel and has a problem-solving purpose. Now, we all want skinny spoons for narrow jars and mini combs for shredding scallions.
Above: Eatco’s utensils are crafted in Japan’s metalworking hub, Tsubame-Sanjo. Tools shown here include Hasami Shears, $59; the Toku Egg Whisk, $24; and Sulu Mortar and Pestle, $39, all from Chef Knives to Go.

Above: The Saku Leek Cutter’s sharp blades also slice scallions and green onions for garnishing salads, soups, and noodles; $26.95 from Akazuki.
Above: Never go chasing errant kernals with the Poro Corn Peeler; $16 from Kiriko.
Above: If unspreadable butter is your pet peeve, Eatco has a solution. The Nulu Butter Knife’s perforated blade creates soft strands. One edge is serrated for cutting bread and the handle is angled up for cleanly resting the knife on the table; $19.95 from Kiriko.
Above: The Muku Avocado Cutter, $24 from Chef Knives to Go, is another multipurpose invention: the compact, cupped knife can split the skin, remove the pit, and scoop or slice the flesh.
